What is Bill S5536/A457?
S5536/A457, also known as the “New York City Teleworking Expansion Act," are NY State Bills introduced by Assembly Member Nily Rozic and Senator Leroy Comrie seeking to amend the NYC administrative code to allow for a permanent telework policy for all City agencies.
Co-sponsors of the bill include Senators Alessandra Biaggi, Jamaal T. Bailey, and Jo Anne Simon.
Formal telework and flexible schedule policies will promote diversity and inclusion, increase employee productivity, promote employee retention, and maintain competitiveness with other government entities and the private sector.
These policies also reinforce work-life balance and the health and wellness of employees in various ways. A flexible policy better prioritizes staff safety and allows NYC to reallocate resources to better support workers whose physical presence in the workplace is necessary.
